Flaster Greenberg is pleased to announce that Peter A. Chacanias has joined the firm’s Real Estate & Land Use and Environmental Departments. In his role as counsel, Chacanias will advise commercial real estate developers and property owners on all aspects of real estate from concept to ribbon cutting including development, redevelopment, affordable housing, permitting, and environmental compliance.

Utilizing his strong background representing clients before planning boards, zoning boards of adjustment, and other regulatory bodies across New Jersey, Chacanias brings substantial experience with site plan approvals, subdivisions, variance applications, as well as waterfront development, tidelands, wetlands, pinelands, and historic preservation matters, plus interaction with state and federal environmental agencies.

“Welcoming Peter to the team is great for our clients,” said Michele G.  Tarantino, chair of the Real Estate & Land Use and Environmental Departments. “He has spent his career assisting developers and property owners with complex land-use and environmental matters. His arrival deepens our bench and enhances our ability to offer comprehensive legal assistance on real estate projects benefiting our communities.”

Prior to representing developers, Chacanias served as a board solicitor for several municipal bodies throughout New Jersey, including the Point Pleasant Beach Planning Board, and the Zoning Boards of Adjustment for the municipalities of Little Egg Harbor, Toms River and Summit.

A frequent speaker, Chacanias has presented programs on land use, zoning, tidelands, and other waterfront development topics at a number of professional forums, including the New Jersey Institute for Continuing Legal Education (NJICLE), the National Business Institute, the NEXUS Association of Realtors, Surety Title, and Fidelity National Title. He is an active member of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the NJSBA’s Land Use Section.

Chacanias holds a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University.
